Even though the NBA schedule hasn’t officially come out yet, many sources have confirmed the season will open with our Mavericks taking on the Spurs in San Antonio.
Looks like we are in store for a first round rematch, and it so happens to be the Spurs’ ring night. Whether or not this is a coincidence is unknown, I know many of us felt that we would’ve won that series had Dejuan Blair not been ejected late in game 4 then later suspended for game 5. That of course is all speculation.
Regardless, the game is going to be a good test for the Mavs. We are coming into a season for the first time in a while satisfied with our offseason moves. Many people are talking about us being sleepers in the title picture if Chandler Parsons and Tyson Chandler can play to their abilities and possibly beyond, and if Jameer Nelson can thrive as our starting point guard. This game is going to be a great chance to see what these guys can do for us, especially against a team that is considered the best in the league, and who also happens to be arguably the team we hate the most. I know we say we hate the Heat just as much, but without LeBron the Heat aren’t much of a factor so hating them isn’t as fulfilling if they aren’t as good anymore.
I am ecstatic for this season to start and to see what it has in store for us. The games between these two teams will be hotly contested, I don’t expect we will see a Spurs 8 game regular season win streak against the Mavs anymore. We will compete against them this year, and I am sure Coach Popovich and those guys in San Antonio know what to expect when they play us, and trust me they will be ready, but you can bet we will be too.
MFFLs this is going to be a fun and exciting season. So lets just sit back, be loud, and enjoy the ride.
