Thankful for the Mavs

We have so much to be thankful for as fans of the Dallas Mavericks. Why?

We have the No. 1 ranked scoring offense in the NBA. Yeah, RUN DMC is leading the Mavs to the best offensive team in the league. It is hard to defend the Mavs. You can’t double Monta Ellis or Chandler Parsons when they are in a pick.  and roll with Dirk, because he is Dirk. You can’t double Dirk, because Monta and Chandler have the ability to score. You can’t help off of Jameer Nelson, because he has the ability to shoot the open jump shot. You can’t help off of Tyson Chandler and Brandan Wright, because they have the ability to finish, leading the NBA in field goal percentage. Then you have Barea, Harris, Aminu, Crowder, and Jefferson that fill their roles to the best of their ability.

We’ve got Dirk: the 9th player on the NBA all-time scoring list who hit both that milestone and a second – becoming only the fourth player to score 27,000 points in his career for the same team – in the same month.

We have an awesome starting five: Dirk, Tyson, Monta, Chandler, and Jameer – it doesn’t get any better than them.

We have chemistry and confidence: Neither of which should be taken lightly. (Cavaliers and 76ers anyone?) No backbiting, no finger-pointing when the lead narrows and the going gets tough. These Mavs play well together and they can only get better.

Tyson Chandler is back – That is all.

We have the best owner in the NBA – Before Mark Cuban purchased the Dallas Mavericks, they were a laughing-stock in the NBA. Mark turned things around and make them one of the most valuable franchises in all of professional sports.

We have a top 3 NBA coach: Rick Carlisle is one of the most underrated coaches in all sports. He is a mastermind of the X’s and O’s. The Mavs goes through changes every single year and he changes his game plan to the roster he has and also finds a way to win.

We have so many offensive options: Dirk can rest. He doesn’t have to do it all anymore. NO one does really. On any given night multiple players, not just the starters, are in double figures.

We have a deep bench: Al-Farouq Aminu is good for a double-double at any time against any opponent. Devin Harris and Brandan Wright are always on fire and J.J. Barea has been proving there truly is no place like home. Jae Crowder, Greg Smith, Charlie V. and Richard Jefferson, when called upon, are making it “do what it do” along with the rest of the bench.

We are unselfish: Mavs are passing the ball better – 37 assists alone in last Friday’s blow-out loss to the Lakers (140-106) – and sharing the glory and the highlight reel.

We are sixth in the Western Conference – Hey, we could be 8th or in last place. Be thankful!

We have great spacing on the floor, great ball movement, speed, athleticism, rim protectors, dunkers, alley-oops all over the place. It’s all good.

Yes, MFFL’s, we have a lot to be thankful for in this year’s Mavs squad. Sure our defense could be better, we’ve got to find a way to hold on to leads and we must start beating division rivals like the Grizzlies, Spurs and Rockets. But we’re only 16 games into the season and with a record of 11-5 and a list like the one above, we have plenty of reasons to be thankful right where we are.
