It was a night to remember, whether you were at the American Airlines center, at home on your couch or out at a bar with your buddies, March 7,2017 has 30,000 reasons to never be forgotten.
Dirk became only the 6th player in NBA history to reach 30,000 points and man did he do it poetic fashion. Dirk made his first 6 shots and had 14 points midway through the first quarter, there was little doubt he wanted to get it done sooner rather than later. His signature one-legged fade away jumper bought his ticket into the 30k club and to top it off he hit a 3 from the top of the key right after.
The crowd was electric like we haven’t seen since perhaps the 2011 NBA Finals and boy was it fun to watch. Two people stuck out from the crowd more than anyone else, his lovely wife Jessica and his mentor Holger shedding a tear in the moment. It was a beautiful moment but not only that it’s the cheers and love that Dirk received later on in the night that made it so awesome. Former teammates Tyson Chandler, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Michael Finley & the JET all made their appreciation showed via video, Instagram/twitter. Dallas sports legends Jason Witten, Ivan Rodriguez, Mike Modano and more showed their love for the Big German. LeBron James even made a video of himself watching the game, pure awesomeness.
For nearly 19 years MFFLs been Nowitznesses to Dirk’s 30,005 career points and it has been a magical ride. One of the most underappreciated superstars in NBA history was shown tremendous amount of love last night and it was great to see. Dirk’s not one to acknowledge big milestones but he made an exception last night and even addressed the crowd which is rare but even he couldn’t hide from the moment.
Carlisle said it best last night, there will never ever be another Dirk Nowitzki. A player of his caliber to remain so humble and remain so loyal throughout all the fame and fortune is unheard of this time and age.
Congratulations Dirk it’s been an honor to watch you these past 19 years, the City of Dallas can’t thank you enough. #MFFL
