The most highly touted prospect in this upcoming is Arizona C DeAndre Ayton. Ayton has received comparisons from David Robinson to Karl Anthony-Towns. Ayton is a monster in the paint and led Arizona to a Pac-12 Title this season. Arizona was surprisingly upset in the 1st round by Buffalo, but that should not do anything to Ayton’s stock.
Ayton led Arizona while averaging 21 PPG, 12 RPG, and 2 BPG. Ayton has sky high potential and is widely regarded as the top overall prospect in this years draft. He has massive potential as he could be the Mavs franchise star while anchoring our defense for the next 10 years.
Ayton and the entire Arizona program was under major heat when FBI reports came out that Arizona Head Coach Sean Miller paid Ayton $100k to attend Arizona. Nothing was completely proven and this should have no effect on the Ayton’s future, but it is interesting to hear this reports.
There is little question about Ayton’s future star potential in the league. If we do not secure a top 2 pick it is highly unlikely that we get a chance at him. The Mavericks currently have the 5th worst record in the league with 7 games to go and our 4 games back of the Suns who currently have the worst record in the league. This will be tough to catch, so if we really want the Arizona star center we will need the lotto balls to bounce our way.
A future surrounded by DSJ and Ayton would be awesome, but is unlikely. Let me know what y’all think.
