OK, the 37th pick isn’t exactly what Mavs Fans wanted to have tonight but the future is still bright and not everyone can draft Zion. Here are 3 players the who could end up in blue next season.
Darius Bazley, Small/ Power Forward:
Bazley is 6’9” weighing in at about 215 lbs (up from the 190lbs.). This athletic big man was a 5 star recruit coming out of Princeton High School. Originally he committed to Syracuse but eventually de-committed and took a lucrative internship with New Balance instead. Some scouts say that Bazley could have been a first round lottery pick but because he decided to take a year off he’s projected to be a late first-early second round pick instead. He’s a versatile player who could be a situational starter at the 2, 3, or 4. Rick Carlisle loves to play with this type of athlete in the rotation. Don’t expect too much from him this year but Bazley has one of the highest ceilings in the entire draft.
Isaiah Roby, Small/Power Forward:
Isaiah can be the first Nebraska player drafted in 20 years. He’ll be worth it too. Standing nearly 6’9” and 230 lbs, he’s quick, athletic, and has a keen eye for defense. He averaged 2.2 blocks PER 36 last season. Most scouts see him going around 36-46 but after having workouts with more than 10 teams already & his Nebraska coach believes he may sneak into the first round.
Chuma Okeke, Power/Small Forward:
Chuma spent last year climbing up the draft board for Auburn before his unfortunate ACL injury in the Sweet Sixteen. He’s a very versatile offensive player with NBA star potential. Okeke averaged 12/6.8/1.9 last year in 38 games. He’s got a 7’0” wingspan and quick shot with a very high release point. He’ll have to work on his midrange game but his 3-point shot and ability to drive to the basket make him a steal if the Mavs are able to get him at 37 which there is a slight chance that could happen because of that ACL tear.
Mr. Mazur, what about Joshua Obiesie, Yovel Zoosman, Jontay Porter, or Amir Hinton. I don’t particularly like the Mavericks drafting Roby or Okeke. Bazley would be a good pick for the Mavericks as they looking to get more athletic with Doncic, Powell, Brunson, and the rest of the Mavericks players.
