Sources: Ntilikina Close to Signing with Dallas Mavericks

Marc Stein is reporting that free agent point guard Frank Ntilikina is close to signing with the Dallas Mavericks. The former 8th overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft played four seasons with the New York Knicks averaging 5.5 points per game. Ntilikina couldn’t seem to find his role with the Knicks and he fell out of Coach Thibodeau rotation which led to the Knicks ultimately declining his 7 million qualifying offer

Ntilikina will bolster the Mavericks defense at the guard position, which the Mavs certainly need help in. He will need to improve his offensive game In order to have a secure role in the rotation though.

The 23 year old Frenchman is not a good three point shooter shooting only 32 percent from deep last season. His career high field goal percentage is 39 percent from the field. The upside for the former first round pick is his age, he has a lot of time to improve and at the right price he’s an excellent reclamation project for Jason Kidd.

Ntilikina just finished playing in a gold medal game with French National team. France won the silver medal and Frank played about 10 minutes a game averaging two points per game. Time will tell what role Ntilikina will carve for himself on a team that has several guard that are seemingly equally talented in varying different ways. If the former first round pick finds success does that mean the end of Jalen Brunson’s tenure in a Dallas Mavericks uniform?
