The Dallas Mavericks (8-4) defeat San Antonio Spurs 123-109 to lead the series 3-0.
Luka Dončić led the way with 32 points, 15 assists, and 12 rebounds. It was the first triple-double of the season. With that performance Dončić passes Larry Bird and Magic Johnson with 18 30-point triples, which is 6th all time. Kristaps Porzingis had a huge game scoring a season-high 32 points with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Ball movement was impressive, the Mavericks had a season-high 30 assists, while only committing 5 turnovers. Dallas is 0-3 against top 10 teams, but 8-1 against the remainder of the league. You’d like to see the Mavericks compete better against the upper echelon NBA teams but taking care of the teams which you should beat also goes a long way in positioning in the conference.
Dorian Finney-Smith found his rhythm offensively after starting the season in a slump shooting the ball. Dorian went 6-10 from the field, he highlighted the team being able to move the ball and finding the open man. He also brought the energy as well collecting 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 block. as he scored 13 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block.
San Antonio has been a top 5 defensive team thus far in the season but weren’t able to contain Dallas. The Spurs also struggled offensively, failing to score more than the Mavericks in any of the quarters.
Spurs had 6 players scoring in double-digits. Keldon Johnson had 15 points and 9 rebounds. Dejounte Murray scored 15 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds. Doug McDermott contributed 14 points. Drew Eubanks grabbed 8 rebounds to go along with his 12 points. Lonnie Walker scored 10 points and 7 rebounds. Devin Vassell led the way for the Spurs scoring 20 off the bench in his 30 minutes of play time.
Jakob Poeltl missed another game for the Spurs due to health & safety protocol and Maxi Kleber was out again due to his oblique injury. Before the game coach Jason Kidd said the team would reevaluate Kleber’s injury on Monday.
