The future looks bright for the Dallas Mavericks. They have the Slovenian Sensation Luka Dončić who is swishing and dishing all over the NBA despite being a 19 year old rookie.  They have also traded for Kristaps Porzingis, the 7’3″ 23 year old do-it-all NBA All-Star and Tim Hardaway Jr, a 26 year old super athletic shooter and scorer.  Over the past few years the Mavericks have been able to find and develop quality young role players and defenders in Dorian Finney-Smith and Maxi Kleber.   On top of it all, the Mavericks will have a good chunk of free cap space this summer to try to add to the stable of talent.

Mavs Free Agency: Point Guards

Point guard is one of the positions that the Mavericks really don’t need make a move on this offseason.  Dennis Smith Jr shows great promise, continuing to build on a very impressive rookie season and Jalen Brunson is a proven winner who has shown to be very effective in his limited minutes.  Luka Doncic will also be a primary ball handler so it is not necessary to bring in another big name point guard.  With that said, there are some very good players on this list, and in an era where shooting and player movement most important, you may regret overlooking these guys just because we already have a few guards.

Mavs 2019 Free Agency: Cap Space

The short-term goal for the Mavericks this season is to make the playoffs, this is what Coach Carlisle and the players have said since training camp.  The long-term goal, however, is to build a dynasty with yearly title expectations that’s built around Luka Doncic and Dennis Smith Jr.  The Mavericks went all-in on Luka Doncic this summer by trading our 2018 #5 overall pick and next year’s 1st round pick to the Atlanta Hawks.  By giving up our first round pick the Mavericks best chance to jump from playoff contender to title contender is through free agency this summer.
