The Dallas Mavericks waived Dwight Powell, Seth Lundy and John Poulakidas while signing Walter Clayton Jr. to a two-way contract to finalize their roster for the 2026-27 NBA season.
The roster now stands at 18 players, including three players on two-way contracts: Clayton, Jett Howard and Tobi Lawal.
Clayton joins the Mavericks after spending his rookie season with the Utah Jazz and Memphis Grizzlies. The 6’4” guard averaged 7.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 20.4 minutes per game across 69 appearances, including six starts.
Clayton recorded a career-high 20 points twice last season, including a 20-point, nine-assist performance against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Dec. 7. His addition gives Dallas another guard option as the team starts the season.
Powell’s departure marks the end of a 12-season tenure with the Mavericks, during which he became one of the franchise’s longest-serving players and a respected presence in the locker room and Dallas community.
“Dwight was the consummate professional throughout his 12 seasons with the Mavericks and embodies everything you want in someone representing your organization,” Mavericks President of Basketball Operations Masai Ujiri said. “He’s a tireless worker, an incredible teammate and someone whose impact extends well beyond the basketball court and into the Dallas community. We are grateful for everything Dwight has contributed to this franchise. He will always be part of the Mavericks family, and Dallas will always be a home for him. We wish him nothing but the best in this next chapter.”
Powell averaged 6.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 17.3 minutes per game throughout his career in Dallas. He ranks fourth in Mavericks history in career field-goal percentage at 60.6%, fifth in games played with 763, sixth in offensive rebounds with 1,187, sixth in total rebounds with 3,251 and 10th in blocks with 330.
Last season, Powell appeared in 63 games, including 12 starts, averaging 3.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 14.3 minutes per game. He also played in three of Dallas’ four preseason games in 2026.
Lundy appeared in all four of Dallas’ preseason games, averaging 5.5 points and 0.5 steals in 12.0 minutes per game. The 6-foot-4 guard shot 46.6% from the field and 36.3% from beyond the arc.
Poulakidas appeared in three preseason games for the Mavericks. He averaged 7.0 points and 1.3 rebounds in 14.0 minutes per game while shooting 50.0% from the field, 45.5% from three-point range and 80.0% from the free-throw line.
Both two-way players were waived as Dallas finalized its roster ahead of the regular season.
