After spending the first six seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies, it appears Dillon Brooks’ tenure may be coming to an end. Four days after the Grizzlies were eliminated from the playoffs, Shams Charania reported that the team informed Brooks that he would not be brought back “under any circumstances”.
Brooks’ agent has made his comments known about the report but this is not a great start to the offseason for a pending unrestricted free agent, especially after a disappointing regular season and playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers.
BetOnline has the Mavs with the third best odds to land Dillon Brooks this offseason.
Miami Heat +400
Cleveland Cavaliers +450
Dallas Mavericks +500
Sacramento Kings +550
Houston Rockets +600
Utah Jazz +700
Los Angeles Lakers +800
Minnesota Timberwolves +850
Chicago Bulls +900
San Antonio Spurs +1000
Detroit Pistons +1100
Charlotte Hornets +1200
Indiana Pacers +1400
It is no secret that the Dallas Mavericks are in desperate need of defense and have a need for perimeter defense, as the team ranked 25th in defensive rating this season. The Mavericks ranked 6th in offensive rating and still couldn’t make up the deficit on the other side of the court.
The Mavericks will have their full attention on Kyrie Irving when free agency starts, bringing him back stands as the number one priority for the organization. The organization viewed the mid-season trade being a long-term move to increase the ceiling of the team surrounding their superstar Luka Dončić.
While Brooks showed promise last season, his increase in antics and decrease in production this season might not be worth the investment the upcoming free agent is looking for this summer.
