Luka Dončić continues to display his compassionate side by using his resources to help families in need during the holidays. In a touching display to make a positive impact in his Dallas-Fort Worth community, Luka Dončić’s Foundation helpers were at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth bearing gifts for families of babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Dončić’s foundation provided financial support to NICU families in need of assistance, with paying mortgages and rent, utility bills, car payments and more. Treats, gifts, and hand-knit hats and blankets (created by a local knitting club) were distributed to the families of approximately 97 babies in the NICU. Mothers also were given gift cards for manicures and pedicures (offered onsite at the Mirror Mirror Salon in the hospital), professional photographer shot family portraits.
NBA players’ commitment to philanthropy is an important layer in uplifting and elevating their communities, inspiring a culture of kindness and charity that goes beyond the range of fame. Their charitable work can bring smiles and hope to families during challenging circumstances, fostering unity in the contributions of becoming a stronger society.
The Dallas Mavericks superstar is known for his record-breaking games on the court, but his influence off the court brings support to families in hospital rooms during the holidays.
“My heart has always been with kids, and I know that being in a hospital, a youth center or facing hard times during the holidays is really tough. I want to do whatever I can to make these kids’ days just a bit happier and better,” said Dončić.
Dončić became a father recently so this gesture means even more as it reflects Dončić’s empathy with parents and children within the community.
“The holiday season can be overwhelming and stressful for families with newborns in the NICU,” said Brittany McLaughlin, director of the NICU at Cook Children’s Medical Center – Fort Worth. “We are incredibly grateful to the Luka Dončić Foundation for bringing holiday cheer to our patients and families through their generous donations and financial support for our NICU families. This outpouring of kindness will undoubtedly provide them with joyful memories during this challenging time.”
Dončić and his Foundation have held four holiday surprises this week, helping nearly 275 children, teens and newborn babies in North Texas and his homeland, Slovenia:
- The Luka Dončić Foundation also hosted holiday parties and distributed gifts to the 68 children and adolescents currently living at the Youth Care Center Malči Belič, Ljubljana and 56 children and adolescents at the Residential and Counselling Institution Veržej, Slovenia.
- On Wednesday, Luka hosted 50 students from southern Dallas at the American Airlines Center as they watched the Dallas Mavericks play the LA Clippers. He arranged tickets, bus transportation and a meal, plus a meet-and-greet along with gifts from NERF and Jordan Brand.
- His Foundation helpers were at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth bearing gifts for families with newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
