Luka Dončić Named 2024 All-Star Starter

The NBA announced the starters for the NBA All-Star Game. Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Dončić was named as one of the Western Conference starters, fifth All-Star selection in his young career.

Dončić is averaging a 33.6 points per game (.482 FG%), 9.3 assists per game, 8.5 rebounds per game and 1.4 steals per game. No one has averaged 33 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds per game in 76 seasons prior to this season. He is in the midst of an illustrious season amongst the injuries surrounding the Mavericks roster. Dončić is averaging a career high in points per game, three point percentage, free throw percentage, assists per game and steals per game.

Dončić leads the NBA in 30-point triple-doubles (8), 35-point triple-doubles (5) and 40-point triple-doubles (2). Dončić is also tied for first in the league in 35-point efforts (16) and ranks second in 30-point performances (29) and 40-point outings (7).

Dončić was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, Dec. 11 through Sunday, Dec. 17. It marked the first time this season and the 10th time in his career that he has received the honor. Dončić’s 10 career Player of the Week awards have all come since 2019-20, the most by any Western Conference player over the past five seasons and second-most by any player overall during that stretch (Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo has earned 12). He joins Nowitzki (16) as the only Mavericks to garner the award 10-or-more times.

The NBA will return to the classic format of the Western Conference and Eastern Conference teams during the All-Star game. Dončić joins LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Nikola Jokić and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as starters for the Western Conference. The Eastern Conference All-Stars are led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Haliburton and Damian Lillard.

Dončić finished second in player voting, first in fan voting and second in media voting for Western Conference guards. He joins Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Shaquille O’Neal, Isiah Thomas and Anthony Davis as the only players to earn five All-Star nods before turning 25 years old.

Dončić passes Rolando Blackman (4) for the second-most All-Star selections in franchise history. Dirk Nowitzki holds the franchise record for the most All-Star appearances (14). Dončić has the most All-Star starts in Mavericks history (4).

The 2024 NBA All-Star Game will be an exhibition game played on February 18, 2024 in Indianapolis at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The reserves will be announced on February 1, 2024 on TNT.
