DeMar DeRozan Names Kyrie Irving as the Most Talented Player He’s Ever Seen

Chicago Bulls forward DeMar DeRozan was asked by Ryan Clark on The Pivot podcast who is the most talented NBA player he’s ever seen.

“Just like skill? Kyrie.” DeRozan answered.

While opinions vary depending on who you’re speaking to, Kyrie Irving is one of the most skilled players to play the game. He is arguably the best ball-handler of all time, his ability to finish inside the paint against bigs, difficult shot making in clutch moments of high-pressure games and his efficiency shooting the basketball are the strengths of his game. He has the elite footwork, change of pace and body control on offense that helps him dissect opposing defenses.

He is a master of his craft when he picks up a basketball, the creativity in his skillset resembles a painter with a blank canvas. He reads the game like no other and a historian in the game of basketball. When he’s locked in on defense, there’s no minimal weaknesses in his game. His basketball IQ is high and truly a joy to watch play.

Irving is preparing for the Western Conference Finals against the Minnesota Timberwolves, in his first postseason with the Dallas Mavericks. Irving has appeared in three Conference Finals in his career, all with the Cleveland Cavaliers. His team won all three of those series and advanced to the NBA Finals, winning one NBA Championship.

The Mavericks will lean on Irving and his championship experience against the Timberwolves.

Since joining the Mavericks at the trade deadline last season, Irving has averaged 26.0 points through 78 games played, collecting 5.0 rebounds and dishing out 5.4 assists in the regular season. In games he has appeared in, the Mavericks are 47-31.

Irving has displayed efficiency in those games as he shot 50 percent from the floor, 40.6% beyond the arc and 91.8 at the free throw line since arriving to Dallas.

In the postseason with the Mavericks, Irving has averaged 21.1 points, 5.4 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 12 games.
